HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE NUTRITIONS

WHAT TYPES OF FISH CAN BE EATEN WITH HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
(17 Jan 2008)

All fish like salmon, mackerel, Bombay duck, tuna and sardines can be included in the diet. Shelled fish like crabs, prawns and lobsters can be consumed with a word of caution as they are also high in cholesterol and total fat. So if you are above your ideal body weight or if you have high cholesterol then avoid consuming shell fish.

Method of cooking is very important, do not fry the fish, remember when you fry the fish you also fry away its nutrients. Choose healthy cooking methods like steaming or grilling.

Try to maintain a healthy weight as being overweight puts you at high risk for developing high blood pressure. Reduce your visible salt intake, also other foods high in sodium like ketchups, pickles, canned or packed foods, slated nuts, wafers, chips and fatty foods should be avoided. Fish oils high in omega-3 fatty acids may help to reduce the blood pressure to certain extent, but they should not be taken without a recommendation as they are also high in total fats and calories.
