Secondary amenorrhea is lack of menstrual cycle for more than 6 months in a woman with normal regular menstrual cycle earlier or more than 12 months in a woman with irregular cycle earlier. There could be many reasons for secondary amenorrhea like hormonal changes, certain medications, anorexia nervosa, sudden weight gain or loss, hypothyroidism or Cushing's syndrome.

Try the following home remedies along with your medications to trigger menstrual flow -

  • Turmeric and asafetida both are valuable in the treatment of amenorrhea.

Include them in the diet while preparing meals, also you can drink turmeric milk and add asafetida in the buttermilk.
  • Celery seeds are helpful to trigger menstrual flow, a chemical in it known as butylidene-phthalide in celery seeds helps.
  • Control your weight, don't allow sudden changes and try to maintain an ideal body weight as far as possible.

  • Certain foods are helpful in amenorrhea these include, fenugreek sprouts, sesame seeds, ginger, papaya, white pumpkin, snake gourds, drumstick, bitter gourd and cucumber.

Consult a specialist before starting any medications. It is important to know the cause for secondary amenorrhea for its accurate treatment.
