Dizziness or light headedness, a typical symptom of hypotension is the fall in blood pressure, below the normal levels. It is an abnormal condition resulting in inadequate supply of blood to the brain, heart and other vital organs. The fall in pressure ranges from 90/60 mmHg to 130/80 mmHg.


Typical causes of low blood pressure are decrease in cardiac output, certain medications and reduction in the blood volume. Other minor causes include organ inflammation, dehydration, tachycardia, pericarditis and bleeding in the body. Difficulty in breathing and pain in the chest are immediate symptoms. Electrolyte balance is maintained by supplementation of fluids and minerals. Blood transfusions help in regulating the blood loss. Intake of diuretics should be adjusted. Pericarditis is prevented by removal of the pericardial fluid. Fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains and cereals are recommended. Milk, fish, egg and meat are also taken. Salt intake helps in relieving sodium deficiency. Healthy diet pattern and nutritional supplements helps in correcting malnutrition. In cases of congestion of blood in varicose veins, support stockings are opted for. Postprandial hypotension is eliminated by small and frequent meals with a low carbohydrate diet.
