Indigestion also referred to as dyspepsia is a stomach related problem. This condition is brought about, when there is an improper secretion of digestive juices which ultimately leads to discomfort and uneasiness. Indigestion can be caused due to a large number of reasons, some of which are; change in one’s lifestyle, eating hurriedly, overeating, a lack of exercise, peptic ulcers, pregnancy, smoking, excessive consumption of alcohol, stress and anxiety and so on.
This condition can very often cause heartburn on account of acid reflux and can leave a sour or bitter taste in the mouth. Additionally it may also tend to irritate the esophagus. Some of the symptoms of indigestion are abdominal pain, a feeling of being bloated, heartburn, acid regurgitation, flatulence and frequent burping.
The indigestion that you face is probably due to a change in your sleep cycle. The body is not accustomed to being awake at night, as this is the time meant for rest, thus this change in cycle is what is causing indigestion. Here are a few home remedies that you could implement to treat this condition. Mix together a teaspoon each of ginger and lemon juice with two teaspoons of honey. This should then be added to a glass of warm water and stirred well. This concoction should be had every time you face an indigestion problem. This remedy will help alleviate symptoms. Oranges and grapes are also considered to be beneficial when it comes to treating indigestion. They will help in providing nutrition as well as rest to your digestive organs.
Consuming lemon juice will also help in curing this problem, since it battles bacteria. All you need to do is, add 1-2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice to a glass of warm water. This should be had before your meal in order to thwart acid indigestion. Baking soda is also known to be useful in curing indigestion. Make a mixture by adding a teaspoon of baking soda to a glass of warm water. This mixture should be had to gain immediate relief. Boil 2 cups of water and add a 1-2 pieces of ginger to it. Let the two simmer for a few minutes on a low flame. Once the mixture has cooled, strain it into a glass and add a teaspoon of honey to it. This decoction should be had twice a day to prevent the problems of indigestion. Herbal teas that have been prepared from chamomile, mint, raspberry or blackberry are also great for indigestion.
