Dandruff is a very common condition that is characterized by the appearance of tiny white flakes on a persons scalp and hair. These tiny flakes collect between the person’s hair and at times may also flake off the scalp to settle on the clothes, eyebrows, face and shoulders. This is when this condition becomes embarrassing and a genuine cause for concern.
Dandruff can be categorized into 2 groups; oily or waxy dandruff and dry dandruff. In the oily form of this condition, the flakes adhere to the scalp in clusters while in the dry form of dandruff the flakes lie loosely scattered among the hair. The dry form of dandruff can cause severe itching. Dandruff can be caused due to a large number of reasons, such as; poor nutrition, use of harsh chemicals, unhygienic scalp conditions, zinc deficiency and fungal infections. This is a highly contagious condition and can be contacted from the sharing of clothes, combs, brushes, towels and hats. Although this condition cannot be cured totally, it can be kept under control through the use of some home remedies. Coconut oil is considered to be one of the best remedies for this condition. Warm a teaspoon of coconut oil on a low flame and then massage it into the scalp for 5-10 minutes. Let the application stay on overnight and wash it off the next morning with lukewarm water. Another alternative would be to mix black pepper (3 grams) and coconut oil (300 grams). Warm this mixture for a few minutes on a low flame. Once the mixture cools, strain it into a bowl and then massage the decoction into the scalp. This should be left overnight as well and rinsed of the next morning with lukewarm water. This remedy is considered to be highly effective in the treatment of dandruff.
To two well beaten eggs, add a teaspoon of water and mix well. Moisten you hair a little and then apply this mixture onto the hair and the scalp. Once the application has stayed on for about 15-20 minutes, rinse it off with warm water. Fresh apple juice is also considered to be great when it comes to treating dandruff. Mix together 2 tablespoons each of warm water and fresh apple juice. This mixture should then be applied on to the scalp. Rinse the application off after about 20 minutes. This remedy will help in keeping the scalp clean and will keep the dandruff under control.
