Hypertension or high blood pressure is very frequently referred to as the silent killer as it may show no signs or symptoms of being present. High blood pressure very simply put indicates a high tension or pressure tension within the arteries, which are the vessels that transport blood from our heart to various organs and tissues of the body. This condition can be brought about by a large number of factors such as; thyroid dysfunction, pregnancy, alcohol addiction, stress, chronic kidney disease, obesity, genetics, birth control pills, sodium sensitivity, sedentary lifestyle, diabetes and medication.

As mentioned earlier, this condition rarely displays any symptoms and even if it does they are usually mild. Some of these symptoms are; headaches, dizziness, nausea and blurred vision. Chronic high blood pressure can have serious repercussions on one’s health and it could lead to heart attacks, strokes, heart failure, kidney failure and a loss of vision or eye damage.

This condition may go unrecognized for several years without showing any symptoms, but all the while causing a progressive damage to one’s blood vessels, heart and other organs. Here are a few home remedies that can help in keeping this condition under control. Garlic is considered to be beneficial for treating this condition. It will help in slowing down your pulse rate and will modify the hearts rhythm, reliving breathlessness, numbness and dizziness and reducing spasms of the small arteries. Chewing on 2-3 garlic pods a day should suffice. Potatoes particularly when boiled are also great for this condition. When boiled, their skin absorbs a very little amount of salt and hence they are beneficial if you have been put on a low sodium diet. Additionally, the magnesium present in the vegetable will also help in lowering your pressure.

Consuming parsley will help in keeping your arterial system healthy. Boil twenty grams of the leaves in a glass of water for a few minutes and then drink the resultant decoction after it has been strained. This solution, if had 3-4 times a day will help in maintaining your blood pressure. Vegetable juices, particularly spinach or carrot are also great for keeping the pressure at normal levels. Grapefruit has also been proved to be useful for treating hypertension. It contains Vitamin P, which will help in toning up the arteries. Try and stick to a diet that is vegetarian and reduce the consumption of proteins, meats and eggs. Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables will prove to be beneficial.

High blood pressure remedies

High blood pressure or hypertension is a result of the narrowing of the arterial lumen, thereby reducing the blood flow. Stress, obesity, increased salt intake, excessive alcohol intake and the presence of liver or kidney diseases are the common causes. The pressure in the arteries is measured by the contraction (systole) and relaxation (diastole) of the heart muscles. Changes in the dietary pattern, lifestyle modifications, medication and exercise are the various methods of treatment. Headache, problem with vision and dizziness are the primary symptoms. Damage to the eye, stroke and arterial hardening are the associated complications of hypertension.

The normal blood pressure is 120/80 (systole/diastole). Caffeinated beverages are avoided. Reduction of fatty foods results in weight reduction, which in turn decreases the blood pressure. Cutting on stress helps a lot in overcoming hypertension. Supplementation of vitamins and antioxidants proves beneficial. Omega 3 fatty acids in the form of soy products and fish are recommended. Calcium, magnesium and potassium are supplemented, thereby helping in the reduction of blood pressure. Garlic and hawthorn are effective in reducing hypertension. A papaya eaten in an empty stomach for a month is an effective technique. A teaspoon each of honey and onion juice taken daily proves effective in two weeks. Avoid meat, pork and other fats. Indian gooseberry is a good household remedy. Guggul and arjuna are herbs that are vasodilators.
