Lymph nodes are a part of the lymphatic system and are placed in various parts of the body, the main ones include sides of the neck, under the arms and groin region. These bean shaped gland forms an important art of your immune system. It helps filter bacteria, fluids, viruses, or other unknown material in the body.
Then the white blood cells destroy them. A swollen and painful lymph node is an indication that your body's immune system is working to fight the invading bacteria and viruses. A painful lymph node often heals on its own with time, however appropriate watch is necessary to avoid infection in the lymph node. If the pain is too bothering then apply warm compress over the lymph node. Simply soak a towel in hot water, squeeze out the excess water and use this as compress. Avoid any kind of stress and learn to relax as chronic stress can impair your immune system in a major way.
