Menstrual problems tend to affect about 30 % of women of the reproductive age. A normal menstrual cycle can go up to 35 days instead of normal 28 days and the periods can extend up to 5 to 7 days. However hormonal imbalance or certain medications can hamper the normal cycle leading to concern for the same.

Our general habits in day to day life can lead to irregularities in menstruation.

Our diet can be one of the leading causes for irregularity. Maintaining a healthy diet is essential. Too much of spicy and oily foods, intake of caffeine can cause problems. Certain eating disorders like anorexia and binging can not supply the body with the required energy needed to carry out the activities. Stress on iron rich foods which can improve the quality of hemoglobin. Leafy green vegetables, grains are important for improving the quality of the diet. Have more of Vitamin C rich foods like citrus fruits, guava which can help in absorbing iron in the body.

Stress can be a factor. Anxiety, frustration, tension, anger can bring about changes in the body, hampering the normal functions of the body. Try to be relaxed and cool. Learn meditation and yoga that can be helpful. Take breaks in routine work so that the body can relax properly.

Too much of exercise can create havoc as it can make the body to work vigorously.

Sexual activity if done for the first time can lead to irregular menses.
