Toenail fungus health advice
I've had toenail fungus for a couple of years. I have been treated with a prescription for this and have tried it twice on different occassions. Is there anything else that I can use to get rid of it.

Fungal growth can occur both in toe nail and finger nail. Toe nail fungal infection is called onychomycosis which is caused by group of fungus called dermatophytes. This fungus can affect both the big toe finger and little finger.
This fungus can grow on the keratin present under the surface of the nail. The affected nail tends to be yellow or brown color. The strength of the nail tends to weaken and may fall off.
Sometimes foul smelling debris may get accumulated under the nail and it may be painful to wear shoes.
Toe nail fungal infection is contagious as it can spread from one toe to another; hence this infection can occur for those people using swimming pools, gym or bath tubs. Also wearing tight shoes or socks does not allow the toe to be dry leading to infection. Even not drying our feet thoroughly after bathing or washing feet can be the reason.
Health remedies that can be applied to get rid of toe nail fungus are:-
- Add some apple cider vinegar to warm water. Soak the toenails in water for 15 – 20 minutes. Dry the feet thoroughly.
- Add 2 drops of oregano oil with a teaspoon of olive oil. Apply this oil on the affected toe for few minutes. This oil can be applied for not more than 3 weeks.
- Soaking your toes in Listerine mouthwash can also be helpful.
- Avoid sharing linen or towels of the affected people.
- Dry your feet thoroughly after visiting public places like swimming pools, steam baths or gyms.
- Have foods that contain healthy bacteria like yoghurt as it will get rid of the fungus.
