Puffiness of eyes treatment

The area of skin around the eyes is extremely thin and rich in blood vessels, making it very sensitive. Puffiness in this area is a symptom of a variety of ailments, both major and minor. Salt retention, medication, dehydration, and a long list of other problems can result in under-eye puffiness, apart from a simple lack of sleep.

If the problem isn't just sleep deprivation, you need to find out what it is, and address it directly instead of trying to treat the puffiness, which is only a symptom.

Assuming that the cause is a lack of sleep, two of the simplest and oldest remedies are cucumber slices and tea bags. Lie down and place a slice of cucumber over each eye for half an hour.

You can do the same with a tea bag that has been soaked in warm water for about a minute. Both methods reduce the swelling by constricting the blood vessels. You can also splash cold water on your face —this too constricts the blood vessels, and is of course also greatly refreshing. The most effective, simple, and enjoyable remedy though is to catch up on sleep as soon as you can. Also it can never harm you to make sure your water intake is sufficient — as mentioned, dehydration is sometimes a cause of puffiness under the eyes.
