Anxiety is a psychological state characterized by fear, apprehension, and/or worry. Anxiety is usually a normal and common emotion, but in some people becomes extreme and irrational, and is a disorder. As a pathological condition, this state is usually accompanied by physical symptoms such as nausea, breathlessness, headaches, stomach aches, heart palpitations, excessive perspiration, trembling, and chest pain.



In general, you should avoid coffee, tea, tobacco, alcohol, and drugs. When you find yourself on the verge of an attack, drink a glass of water, breathe slowly, and recognize that you are feeling a natural emotion and it will pass, just like anger, sadness, or even happiness. If you find that these techniques do not work, your anxiety attacks may be more severe, and you may need professional help.


Appropriate treatment for pathological anxiety varies from person to person, depending on genetics, personality, and environment, so only a therapist or counselor working closely with you can determine the right approach. Ideally, you should avoid antidepressants and other drugs, but in some cases these may be necessary. If necessary, one natural and effective short term treatment is kava root. However, kava does have some side effects and safety considerations, so it's better if you ask your doctor for an opinion before you use it.
