Varicose Veins Treatment Varicose veins are bluish or purplish enlarged veins that can cause pain, heaviness and swelling. In serious condition it can lead to blood clots and inflammation. In some people the valves in the veins can get weakened and lose its elasticity and can form balloon like pouches.
The blood may collect in these veins and can cause inflammation. This generally occurs in the legs where too much of pressure is applied on the leg veins. This condition gets aggravated on constant standing and also during obesity where the legs have to bear the weight of the body.
It can also take place during pregnancy and menopause due to hormonal changes in the body. It can also occur in people suffering from chronic constipation where too much of pressure needs to be applied by the rectal veins to defecate.
Natural treatment of reducing varicose veins are:-
- Grape seed extract and pine bark extract are useful against varicose veins. These contain oligomeric proanthocyanidin which is an antioxidant that can strengthen the blood vessels and can reduce inflammation.
- Witch hazel is an herb can be used as tea or as a compress in the form of strong decoction. This herb contains tannins and Gallic acid that can relieve the pain and inflammation associated with varicose veins.
- Mix 12 drops each of cypress and geranium oils to four ounces of almond or sunflower or soy oil. Gently apply this mixture to the surrounding area of the enlarged veins and massage in upward direction in a circular motion. Gently stroke the oil over the affected veins.
- Drink 8 ounces of fresh berry or cherry or pineapple juice. Cherries and berries contain anthocyanin and proanthocyanidin that can strengthen the blood vessels. Pineapple contains bromelin that prevent the formation of blood clots.
- Soak your feet in hot water for three minutes and then in cold water for 30 seconds. Repeat this for three times finishing finally with cold water. This can be done once in a day for one month.
If the swelling is bluish and very painful, you need to consult the doctor.
