Clogged or plugged ears are associated with allergy, infection, change in weather and sinusitis. Any job that requires the continuous use of hand and head coordination, such as writing, stitching and so on requires a lot of concentration, causing muscular spasms and contractions. These also cause clogged ears.


Foods that cause hypertension, such as refined foods, saturated fats, salty foods and acidic foods also contribute to clogged ears. Accumulation of earwax clogs the ears. It is also known as cerumen, which is a yellow waxy substance. Over-the counter ear drops, available with the pharmacist is useful in providing immediate and temporary relief. For persistent plugging, visit to a ENT specialist is recommended. Trigger point therapy is a common technique used to clear plugging of ears. This is an easy method of massaging the tightened muscles. Meditation and yoga helps in relaxation, thereby assisting in better drainage. A nasal spray with decongestant action or nasal drops is helpful. Placing the ears under a shower of water relieves clogging under pressure. Yawning also helps at times. Clogging due to pressure changes is eliminated by having a chewing gum. Holding the nose and blowing is helpful. Placing your hand over the nose and mouth is also an effective remedy.
