Piles or hemorrhoids refer to an enlargement and inflammation of the blood vessels in the rectum. They may appear as bluish purple discolored swollen masses and may cause symptoms such as itching, pain and bleeding. Hemorrhoids actually develop inside the anal canal, but in some cases they may protrude outside the rectum.
Piles can be classified into different types depending on the condition. First degree piles are swollen blood vessels inside the anal canal. Bleeding may occur, but the veins are not visible from the anus. Second degree piles swell more and push through the anus when the bowels are opened and retreat back inside after that. Third degree piles also push through the anus, but remain protruding outside. They can be gently pushed back inside in some cases. Fourth degree piles extend out of the anus permanently and cannot be put back in. Blood clots may develop in these, causing further pain and swelling. Hemorrhoids result in blood discharge from the anus. There may not be any accompanying pain though. Mucus may also drip from the anus, causing further irritation. Itching and pain is likely to result when hemorrhoidal veins develop. There may also be a feeling of incomplete emptying of the bowels. Piles result due to strain exerted during bowel movements. The causes for this could be constipation, diarrhea, pregnancy, intake of less fiber in the diet and hereditary.
Surgery is usually recommended when blooding clotting begins to occur repeatedly in the external piles, or when other non-invasive medical procedures are unable to treat the condition. These non-invasive procedures are generally used for first and second grade piles, where surgery is not preferred by the individuals. You can discuss with your doctor if other treatment options can be used for this condition. The best way to prevent further aggravation of piles is to ensure that your family member starts consuming a diet that is high in fiber. This will ensure that bowel movements start taking place properly. Substantial amounts of water also must be consumed so that the stools do not harden further and cause more complications. There are some herbal remedies that can ease the symptoms of piles, but you first need to discuss with the doctor if these can be used instead of surgery. Comfrey is an anti-inflammatory herb that helps to reduce the inflammation and pain. A paste of comfrey can be made by pounding it and mixing with vegetable oil. Psyllium seeds add fiber to the digestive system, making the passage of stools easier. Psyllium seeds can be mixed in water and taken for regulation of bowel movements.

Piles natural treatment Piles can be successfully controlled with the help of herbal remedies and solutions. Roast a tablespoon of black cumin seeds and mix it with plain black unroasted cumin seeds, which have not be roasted. This combination must be ground to a fine powder and had daily till the powder lasts. Half a teaspoon of the powder must be consumed with a glass of water daily.
The juice of fresh radishes although unpleasant and stingy to taste is an extremely useful method t control piles. Initially you would do well to begin with a quarter cup of the potion and gradually increased to half a cup of the same. This juice must be had for a period of 45 days to see results.
Take a ripe banana and boil it in a cup of warm milk. This thick gooey paste must be mashed well and had for at least 5 times during the day. It provides instant relief and eases the discomfort. Although instant relief can be acquired with the home treatments one way of ensuring that piles do not return is to have plenty of water during the day. An increase in high dietary fiber and simple exercises involving Yoga is instrumental in controlling the disorder for future times.
