Pinworm infection is one of the common intestinal infections that are contagious. It is caused by parasitic worms which measure ½ to 1 cm in length. They are really tiny and look like tiny thin white thread pieces.

Although it can affect anybody, school children (5-14 yrs) are most at risk of getting a pinworm infection. The classic symptom of an pinworm infections is itching around the rectum, however it doesn’t cause any other serious health problems and also it won’t take long to treat the infection. As it is a contagious infection taking care of the hygiene part becomes very important.

A person can get infected unknowingly by ingesting these microscopic worm eggs found at different levels like towels, pajamas, underwear, bed linens, food, drinking and eating utensils, toys or kitchen counters. As soon as you experience or your child experiences itching around the anal region especially at night when these little worms come out to lay their eggs consult a specialist for correct diagnosis and treatment.
