Diet plays a very important role in the treatment of gout. Try the following home remedies along with the diet tips to ease your condition.

Diet tips for gout -

  • Weight is a very important criterion in gout treatment.

A gradual weight loss over a period of times will tremendously help to reduce the symptoms of gout. Set a goal to lose around ½ kg per week. Strictly avoid fad diets or rapid weight loss.

  • Foods high in purine break down in the body to produce uric acid which is already high in gout. Thus minimize the consumption of purine rich foods which include many animal products like organ meats (liver, heart, and kidneys), meat, pork, herring, mackerel and eggs besides lentils, peas and low fat dairy goods. But as the latter ones contain moderate amounts of purine they need not be restricted altogether from the diet but should be limited to 1-2 servings per day.
  • Alcohol and caffeine consumption should be minimized or restricted completely. Beer contains along with purines beer also interferes with the body’s normal uric acid excretion.
  • Increase fluid consumption in the form of boiled water, vegetable or unsweetened fruit juices to flush excess uric acid from your system.
  • Some of the helpful foods for gout include apples, bananas, hemp seeds, flaxseeds anf pumpkin seeds.
  • Add a slice of lemon juice to your diet, as lemon helps stimulate the formation of calcium carbonate in the body and prevents gout attacks.
