Try the following home remedies to loosen the mucus build up in the back of your throat –
- Take steam from boiling water (add 2 drops of eucalyptus oil in water) 2-3 times a day, especially before going to bed to open your blocked nose, loosen and eliminate mucus.
- Warm water gargles with a tsp. of salt added in it would also help to ease congestion and relieve mucus.
A gargle with plain water and pure diluted tea tree oil will also help eliminate mucus. - Encourage spitting the mucus out of the mouth as far as possible. Don’t use a handkerchief or cloth to wipe the mucus, instead use tissue papers as this will eliminate your chances of getting re-infected (as cold virus can live for several hours).
- Drink hot and spicy vegetable soups or broths which will help the mucus formation.
- Add ½ tsp. turmeric and ½ tsp. salt to a cup of milk, boil and drink this twice daily.
