Congestion of the nose, throat and chest are common, during respiratory infection. Nasal congestion can be relieved by steam inhalation. Carom seeds are crushed and knotted in a handkerchief.


Placing this near a pillow helps in relieving congestion. Place your tongue on the palate of your mouth and press between the eyes with a finger. This helps in removal of congestion.


Omega 6 fatty acids found in processed foods are reduced and intake of omega 3 fatty acids is increased, in the form of walnuts, fish, supplements and soy products. Supplementation of pyridoxine and magnesium works wonders. Topical application of garlic oil or cayenne extract on the chest removes congestion. Fatty foods, dairy products and chocolates are better avoided. Eucalyptus oil inhalation with steaming water helps. Thyme and fenugreek are effective against respiratory sinus. Cayenne and garlic can also be supplemented in the form of capsules. Inhalation of vapors of heated cider vinegar helps. Drops of peppermint oil, dabbed on a handkerchief, held near the nose, are an effective remedy. Liquorice tea or chickweed consumption decreases mucus congestion. Anti microbial and antiseptic properties, exist in grapefruit seed extract. It helps in completely relieving the sinus by phlegm drainage.
