A sore throat can be a result of eating cold foods, cold weather or any other underlying problem. Eating cold foods brings about a sore throat, within hours of consumption. Mucous inflammation of the lower pharynx is typical of a sore throat. Persistent cold also produces a cough. Pain and difficulty in swallowing food indicates a sore throat. Breathing through the mouth, especially during a bout of blocked nose causes a sore throat. Honey is one of the age-old remedies, available easily in every home, due to its varied therapeutic roles. Gargling with aloe vera juice also helps. A rinse or gargle with apple cider vinegar is an effective remedy, due to its bacteriostatic action. A hot tea of chamomile in boiling water relieves the associated cough. Ginger decoction, sweetened with honey works wonders. It gives a tingling sensation and clears the throat. A teaspoon of equally mixed honey and cider vinegar, taken 4 times a day proves beneficial. Gargling with warm salt water (juice of a lemon added) also helps. Liquorice tea made with liquorice roots is an effective remedy. Inhalation with eucalyptus oil in hot water proves helpful.
