Bad breath or Halitosis is a condition where the breath of an individual has a foul smell. This foul smell may be unbearable for the individual and, especially, for those around the patient. In many cases, the individual may not notice his or her halitosis until it is pointed out by someone who comes into contact with the foul breath of the individual.
There are many halitosis causes, some related to oral hygiene while others are related to general health, including the health of the digestive system. Chronic halitosis is a sign of poor health and should be taken as a symptom by the patient for further treatment. In most cases, patients believe that the halitosis causes lie within their mouths and they may choose various options to try and treat this problem. However, there may be far deeper halitosis causes which need to be examined before the condition can be effectively dealt with. This leads to the question on how to get rid of halitosis?
When we examine the various halitosis causes, it becomes easier to understand the logic behind this condition. Most chronic bad breath or halitosis cases are caused by problems with the gastrointestinal system and not with the oral system. Poor oral hygiene is also one of the possible halitosis causes. However, this condition should resolve every time an individual brushes his or her teeth. Also, chronic halitosis causes related to oral hygiene are relatively easy to diagnose. The individual will notice abnormalities with the gums or the teeth and may even experience pain in the mouth. This type of halitosis is related to the decay of the teeth or the gums.
Any individual who has experienced some serious digestive disorder will have felt a foul taste in the mouth accompanied by halitosis. In this case the bad breath remedies depend on the condition and its cure. A patient with such a problem should seek bad breath remedies from a gastroenterologist as the problem is rooted in the gastrointestinal system and not in the oral system. One may use other bad breath remedies to mask the symptoms as treatment progresses. However, this will not solve the problem. Cures for bad breath can also be used for halitosis that is associated with the oral cavity. These bad breath remedies include various types of mouthwashes and oral care treatments. There may be specific mouthwashes that are medicated; these can be used as effective bad breath remedies.
For halitosis causes related to the gastrointestinal system, the patient is most likely to experience other symptoms as well. These symptoms may include a feeling of being bloated and constipation. In general, digestive problems that cause diarrhea should not cause serious halitosis. Halitosis occurs when the fermentation of waste products takes place in the intestine. The gases from this fermentation process have to pass out of the body through the mouth as there is no way for them to escape through the bowel. When an individual suffers from halitosis of this kind, he or she will suffer from extremely foul breath. Halitosis associated with bad oral care should only cause mild halitosis. Severe halitosis is associated with fermentation and decay in the digestive system. To treat bad breath home remedies may be used, however it is necessary that the root cause of the condition be treated.
Digestive halitosis causes may require extensive treatment. The very fact that the individual is suffering from halitosis is a sign that the condition has progressed to a certain extent and has been present in the body for at least a few days. Various scans and tests may be performed on the individual to determine the specific halitosis causes. Once this discovery has been made, the appropriate treatment will be given. This treatment will work to improve the performance of the digestive system. The fact that it cures halitosis is a side benefit of the treatment.
