Mustard plaster is used traditionally for years now as a good home remedy for cold and chest congestion. Try the following recipe to make a home made mustard plaster – For adults – Take ¼ cup of flour and add a table spoon of dry mustard powder in it. Use warm water to make a smooth paste.
Now spread this paste on a clean cotton or muslin cloth. Cover this with another muslin cloth (this plaster should be big enough to cover the chest). Place this plaster on your chest; make sure that your chest is dry.
You will get a warm feeling, it will gradually get hot but normally it does not burn. You can leave it for the whole day (not for children). But if it irritates your skin or your skin gets red then use it for 15-20 minutes and then re apply it after some time. For children with sensitive skin the proportion of the flour should be decreased and a pinch of soda should be added to the paste.
