Try these home remedies for vaginal odor -
- Add ½ cup vinegar to ½ cup water. Use this solution to douche your vagina. This will help to eliminate the unpleasant vaginal odor.
- Mix 2 drops of tea tree oil in ½ cup water. Apply this water to the vaginal area to reduce the off odor.
- Acidophilus present in yoghurt or yoghurt would help to deal with an infection (it might be possible that vaginal odor is due to some bacterial or yeast infection). Acidophilus supplements for the same can also be taken.
- Always use a condom while performing a sexual activity to avoid any sexually transmitted diseases. Also keep your vagina clean douching it after having sex would also help.
- Avoid wearing too tight and uncomfortable clothes. Wear clean dry cotton panties and change them preferably at night before going to bed.
- If odor is accompanied by itching or scratching then consult a specialist to diagnose the exact cause for the problem.
It is normal to have vaginal discharge as it is the body’s natural mechanism to keep the vagina clean and healthy. However if there are some changes in the discharge in terms of quantity, color or if the odor lingers for long time or if you have an burning or irritating sensation near your vagina consult a specialist to know the exact cause and treatment would follow accordingly.

According to ayurveda, the wetness in mucosal linings becomes more wet due to the foods which are having the tendency to form mucous. e.g. dairy, refined sugar, flour, wheat, soft carbs.
So first change one must make is to stop these foods. Secondly, you may not have bacteria or infection. What about parasites? Intestinal parasites often cause such problems. So a parasite cleanse is indicated. Itch is a sure confirmation.
A simple home remedy is to crush a clove of garlic in a cup, add half a cup of yogurt with 1/4 tsp turmeric powder and take this first thing empty stomach every morning for 6 weeks. All the excess mucous will reduce in addition to odor. Turmeric is not only anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, but it is anti-kapha, anti-mucous, anti-septic, immune booster and is now proven to be useful in ovarian cancer and it is ancient remedy for both types of arthritis.
