Astragalus is a traditional Chinese herb used as an alternative medicine. The roots of the plant astragalus membranaceus is commonly used in herbal remedies. According to some preliminary human clinical studies and some animal studies astragalus may help to build up the immune system and improve its functioning.

This herb is commonly used to decrease the side effects of chemotherapy, kill the cancer cells, to provide a protective effect against heart disease and help heal burns. It also helps to fight against common cold and improve general weakness. Extracts of astragalus have been found to enhance the cell destroying ability by improving immune response in lab studies. However there are no scientific researches to prove the claims that this herb can shrink tumors or prevent / cure cancer, or reduce the side effects of a particular therapy in humans. Consult a specialist or a health care professional before starting any herbal supplements to avoid any adverse effects or complications.
