Treatment for cold sores

Cold sores, also referred to as fever blisters are infectious boils seen to occur in the mouth. Cold sores bring out some liquid and are caused by herpes virus. Fever, lymph enlargement and fatigue are seen to accompany cold sores.


Deficiency of calcium also leads to cold sores. Supplements of calcium are included in the diet. Maintaining hygiene and washing hands is important to prevent further spread of infection. Common causative factors of cold sores are stress, fatigue, poor immunity, fever, infection, food allergy, menstruation, ultraviolet radiation and trauma. Glycyrrhizic acid is a chemical component present in licorice. It helps in the inhibiting the microbes and thereby prevents proliferation of infection. The tingling feeling of cold sores is relieved by dabbing cotton dipped in milk. Healing is hastened by milk. Cold compress helps in pain relief. Supplements, such as zinc lozenges are advised. Use a new tooth brush, as they are a source of infection. Acidic and salty foods are avoided. Chemicals are not used. Avoid make ups. Over-the-counter pain killers prove beneficial. A petroleum jelly is effective in preventing further spread of infection.
