Hormone replacement therapy is recommended in menopausal women, due to the fall in the estrogen levels. It is also referred to as estrogen replacement therapy. Aging in women results in change in female hormones, resulting in symptoms, such as hot flashes and osteoporosis. There is an increased risk of cancer, cardiac disease and degenerative disorders. HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy is taken under the guidance of a gynecologist, as the level of depletion of hormones, needs to be known. Menopausal hormone therapy is a boon for many women suffering from vaginal dryness, joint pain and so on.

A combination of progestin and estrogen is one method of HRT. Estrogen alone therapy is the second method. Night sweats; sexual discomfort and vaginal itching are relieved. Osteoporosis resulting in easy fractures of the pelvic area and cancer of the colon are prevented. Modification in the dietary regimen and lifestyle also helps in curbing all the above said symptoms. Women having a history of blood clots or cancer are refrained from his therapy. It is provided in the form of creams, tablets, sprays, implants and so on. Effective reduction in osteoporosis and colon cancer in postmenopausal women is seen. Nausea, weight gain and headaches are common.
