Cold is a common attack of virus resulting in chest and nose congestion, running nose, sneezing and tears in eyes. Fatigue with a mild increase in body temperature is seen. Supplementation of zinc proves beneficial in relieving cold.

It is provided as lozenges or as a part of the diet. Zinc is seen in sea foods, meat and liver. Multiplication of the virus is prevented, thereby providing relief.

Allicin, a chemical compound, present in garlic, possesses bacteriostatic and fungistatic properties. Supplements are recommended under the guidance of a physician. The degree and intensity of the condition is also reduced by vitamin C supplementation. Research is underway regarding the effectiveness of echinacea herb. Polysaccharides and ginsenosides present in ginseng have a positive effect. Honey is an age-old remedy for sore throat and cold. A hot decoction of ginger tea with or without honey and lemon proves beneficial against common cold. Steam inhalation twice a day is effective in phlegm removal. Gargling with warm water and salt is also helpful. Are you asthmatic, cases, wherein nebulization is essential? Proper guidance of a pulmonologist is recommended.
