Toothache remedy

The first step to check if the toothache is caused by trapped food is to rinse the mouth thoroughly. Water at room temperature must be used as a mouthwash which should be gargled thoroughly and only a complete rinse can help dislodge the food out of a stuck position. Salt water can also help the pain to numb down and also works as a mild antiseptic if the gums have swollen due to the ache.

Take a teaspoon of salt in a glass of water and swish in your mouth for a couple of minutes before throwing it out. The water should reach all the crevices within the mouth and gums to ensure every part gets covered with the salt water. Gentle flossing can also help if rinsing does not prove to be useful in removing the stuck bits of food in the mouth.

The time old remedy of cloves works best during the initial stages of a toothache. Swab a bit of clove oil directly on to the affected tooth or gum with the help of a cotton pad or gauze and let it stay there for a while till the pin ebbs away. Else bite onto a clove and hold onto it till you feel the extraction of the clove taking effect.
