It is important for the colon to be clean and healthy because it is the organ that cleanses all the toxic wastes from our body. A lot of what we eat goes into our bowels as waste matter. If not cleansed regularly, this waste matter or toxins keep building in the colon and then cause health problems such as constipation, obesity, and other digestive disorders.

Thus, it is important to regularly cleanse the colon. You can also opt for colon cleansing. Here are some natural ways to cleanse the colon.

  • The first thing that you need to do is pay attention to your diet. Jot down in a diary what kinds of food you eat at every meal. Then read through the entries and trace out a food pattern. Quite possibly, your diet comprises of junk foods and foods poor in nutrition. Then the next step would be to plan out your diet carefully, and include products that are rich in vitamins, minerals, protein and fiber. Make sure that all the foods groups are represented on your plate at meal times.
  • Another important tip is to drink a lot of water through the day. Water is known to stimulate natural peristaltic action. Water can flush out the toxins naturally from your body. Along with that if you have foods rich in fiber, your colon will be cleansed and will be in good health.
  • You can speak with a nutritionist and buy a natural colon cleanser that will flush out the harmful toxins and cure you of digestive ailments. A good colon cleanser can clean out the undigested food piling up in the digestive system, and can flush out the fecal matter.
  • You might also like to take some medicinal herbs to cleanse your colon. Herbs can flush out the toxins and purify the body. They also purify the blood and keep the liver healthy. However, we recommend that you speak with a healthcare provider before taking any.

A number of our common ailments like abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, headaches, backaches, lack of energy and depression are thought to be indicative of a “dirty bowel”. During the digestive process, while major food is passed in the feces through the digestive system, some part of it gets lodged against the walls of the colon. These remnants are thought to decay and release toxins into the blood stream; the toxins result in various ailments and if left in the body over a long period of time, can even cause serious problems like blood pressure and heart disease. However, there is not much scientific evidence that any of this really happens. Many alternative and traditional schools of medicine subscribe to this view, but the toxins they speak of are not properly defined, nor are the manner in which these toxins affect the body.

If you are still interested in colon cleansing, then you can try some of the options described below. Medically, cleansing is done through colonic hydrotherapy or colonic irrigation, in which sterilized water is introduced in the colon and toxins are flushed out. This therapy is quite intrusive and cleanses only the lower bowel. It is also risky and you must ensure that it is being performed by a licensed, experienced professional. Other ways of cleansing the colon include taking supplements or chemicals, which may again come with their own side effects. The only true colon cleansing that will help you in the long run is changing your diet, which is a more holistic approach. Most colon problems are caused by consuming harmful foods (fatty and high cholesterol foods), drinks (alcohol) and indulging in harmful habits like smoking. So eliminating these from one’s lifestyle will cleanse the system to a great extent.

If you want to cleanse your colon naturally, include huge quantities of fresh fruit and steamed vegetables, along with fiber-rich cereal - at least 25-30 grams of fiber a day, in your diet. This can be found in wheat germ, oat bran, and rice bran cereals. Avoid too much of dairy products like butter and cheese, and animal products like meat. Let your diet be low in fat and high in complex carbohydrates and fiber. Eat at least 2 hours before bed time, and preferably have non-creamed soup, fruit or vegetable salad for dinner. Finally, drink 8 to 10 glasses of clean water a day, as water is essential for a healthy stool and a healthy digestive tract.

One good way of emptying your colon is to eat a banana and drink room temperature Orange Juice. Then wait 10-20 minutes and drink a hot cup of tea with milk.... within an hour it should work.
