Mumps happens to be an infection of the salivary glands located behind and below the ears. It a viral infection and it usually subsides by itself in a week to ten days, but its highly contagious. So be careful.


Nowadays most children are inoculated against Mumps but you can never be too sure so here are a few home remedies which can use to control the painful side effect of mumps -

  • Chebulic Myrobalan (Haritaki) is an excellent home remedy for taking care of mumps. Make a thick paste by grinding it in water and apply onto affected area. Most people feel a great deal of relief.
  • You can apply a cloth of mullein tea to the affected area for relief.
  • Grind the seeds of asparagus along with an equal amount of fenugreek seeds and make a paste for application on the affected area.
  • Make a thick past of Margosa leaves and mix with the paste of fresh turmeric to make a cooling mixture. Apply externally to the affected areas as much as possible to reduce the swelling and pain.
  • Please remember that Mumps is highly contagious so isolate yourself for the ten to fifteen days it requires the infection to subside.
