Cold sores are caused due to the herpes simplex virus. During times of stress or tension of when your immune system is down the virus which is hidden in the human body attacks to form the typical tingling sensations followed by unsightly and painful cold sores. Cold sores tend to recur during the winter months and this is peak time for cold sores.
You can try the following remedies for cold sores - - Rub ice on the infected skin every three hours till the tingling sensation subsides.
- Use a warm teabag on the infected areas every threes hours. This seems to reduce the pain and swelling.
- Apply witch hazel on the infected area it can provide temporary relief.
- Apply common salt on the infected area to reduce the pain.
- Never share your personal belonging is like toothbrush as cold sores are extremely infectious. Wash your hands immediately after touching the cold sore.
- Apply a sunscreen while going out
- Eat nutritious diet of fresh veggies and up your iron intake
