What bacterial infection are you referring to? There are thousands of bacterial infections, and the treatment for each one varies considerably. It is impossible to prescribe any remedy without knowing exactly what infection you are suffering from.
We all have bacteria living in our bodies, especially in the mouth, skin and bowel. Some of these bacteria are actually good for our health as they help us fight infections and also digest food. The trouble begins when they multiply so much that there is an imbalance or when they produce harmful chemicals and when they otherwise interfere with the normal functioning of our organs and tissues. This is when we suffer from various infections like flu, sore throats, and urinary tract infections to name a few. These infections tend to be worse when the immunity of a person is weak. To a large extent this is a factor that is within your control — if you maintain optimum hygiene, a healthy lifestyle and diet, and thus strengthen your immune system, it is possible to keep these infections at bay. You can achieve this by eating a balanced diet rich with vitamins found abundantly in green leafy vegetables and fresh fruits. Drinking fresh vegetable and fruit juices, along with at least two liters of water every day will help keep your internal system clean. Also avoid excessive consumption of alcohol and junk food, smoking and excessive non-vegetarian food.
Apart from basic hygiene and a good lifestyle, there are several remedies that may cure bacterial infections. You can also start including turmeric powder in your daily diet, as turmeric is known for its healing and anti bacterial properties. Add a teaspoon of turmeric powder to a glass of hot milk and drink it every night. For skin infections, you can apply garlic paste about thrice every day to get relief. You can include buttermilk and yogurt in your daily diet too, as they contain healthy bacteria that often help fight harmful bacteria in the body.
Finally however, these general remedies will probably be useless unless you know exactly what infection you are suffering from. Also remember that not all bacterial infections can be treated using home remedies. Sometimes the only way to treat a bacterial infection is to use antibiotics. If prescribed responsibly, and if taken strictly as per the doctor’s instructions, antibiotics are usually effective. It is usually irresponsible use that is the problem, not the antibiotics themselves. It is advisable that you visit a doctor at the earliest, for diagnosis and treatment of your infection.
