A sty does not cause any harm, irrespective of its bad appearance and pain. When the oil glands clog around the eyelashes a sty occurs. It can also be due to a bacterial infection.
Try the following home remedies to treat your sty -
Apply warm water compresses for the sty to break open and drain on its own. Dip a clean cotton cloth in hot water and place this cloth on the eye for few minutes. Repeat 4-5 times a day.
In a similar fashion (warm compress) place guava leaves on the cotton cloth. This is also an effective remedy to treat eye sty.
To decrease the size of the sty place warm wet tea bag on the sty for few minutes. The tannic acid helps to get rid of the sty.
Remember never try to squeeze or pop the sty on your own; let the sty heal on its own.
Avoid wearing any eye makeup or contact lenses. If an eye sty is also associated with some eye infection or getting larger or harder then consult a specialist (ophthalmologist).
