It would at least take 4-6 weeks for the wound, which is the result of the surgery to heal. So it would be advisable to join gym after 6 weeks. Be patient and take exercises easily.

Do not over do on the first day itself. Gradually increase your intensity and duration of any exercise.

Certain diet modifications are also necessary, as they will help you in the recovery -

  • To avoid constipation, eat high fiber foods like fresh fruits and vegetables, whole cereals, pulses, and oats.

    They will facilitate bowel movements.
  • Avoid too spicy or foods, sugar, sweets, refined foods (as the fiber content is negligible), oily/fried foods, non-vegetarian foods, junk foods, canned foods, tea, coffee or caffeinated beverages.
  • For palatability include ginger, garlic, onions, radish, beetroot, buttermilk and bitter gourd in your meals.
  • Soak 3-4 figs overnight and eat them in the morning on an empty stomach as soluble fiber from figs helps to improve bowel movements
  • Avoid smoking, alcohol and most important - try to lose few pounds if you are overweight.
  • Relax and rest. Avoid any kind of physical or emotional stress.
