Puffy eyes remedy

What can you do to deflate puffy eye lids?
( 3 Dec 2007)

The cause of puffy eyes can be varied including fluid imbalances, hangovers, hormonal fluctuations, hypothyroidism, an allergy or dermatitis (if it is accompanied with redness or itchiness). It can also be due to heredity reasons.
  • To improve proper blood circulation in the eye region splash cold water on eyes several times a day.

This will also help in appropriate distribution of fluid.
  • Tannins in tea are useful in reducing the puffiness and swelling around the eyes. Place cold moist tea bags on the outer side of your eyelids.
  • Cut thin strips of raw potato or fresh cucumber. Place them under the eyes for 10-15 minutes to reduce the puffiness.
  • Lightly tap the upper and lower eyelids with your finger tips to enhance circulation.
  • If the puffiness is mainly when you wake up in the morning, then for instant relief place some ice cubes in the plastic bag and use them as compress.
  • Drink plenty of water and get adequate sound sleep.
If puffiness is accompanied by some discharge or pain consult a specialist (ophthalmologist) for the exact diagnosis and treatment.
