To cure ulcerative colitis it is very important to take charge of your diet. The diarrhea and pain hampers your appetite to a greater extent. So it becomes important to have healthy foods when you take your meals. Remember the following tips to cure ulcerative colitis –
- Be alert. If a particular food for example cabbage causes problems (always after consumption) then you can avoid its consumption for some time. But if it is for the first time then you can retest it later. Also only avoid cabbage if it causes problems and not all leafy vegetables.
- You can maintain a dairy to keep a track of the foods you consumed and your health after that.
- Eat apples. The pectin (soluble fiber) in apples has a soothing effect on the colon. Remember to peel the skin and discard the seeds.
- Avoid dried fruits. Preferably remove the skin of all the fruits before consuming and also avoid raw salads altogether.
- Avoid milk, instead choose yoghurt or milk in cooked form like custard.
- Certain medications can cause inflammation of the intestinal lining. Before gulping any medications, consult your specialist.
