Symptoms of Chicken Pox

Chicken pox is a common sickness caused by a virus known as varicella-zoster. The virus causes red spots and itchy rashes on the surface of your skin. This disease is common in children and is rarely found in adults.

Chicken usually occurs once in a lifetime but the virus present in your body can become active again. Chicken pox virus takes long to leave your body.

This is a contagious disease that can be transferred through cough, direct contact with the person having chicken pox, sharing food and clothing. It takes about 3-4 weeks for the symptoms to become visible. The period between the activation of virus and time when symptoms occur is known as the incubation period. During this period the virus tends to weaken your immune system and reduces body's capability to fight infection.

The most prominent and early symptoms of chicken pox are headache, fever, cough and sore throat. These symptoms stay for about 14 to 15 days and further results in the formation of red spots and itchy rashes all over the body. Other symptoms associated with chicken pox are weight loss, appetite loss, fatigue, weakens and reduced immunity.

Some children even get red spots and itchy rashes without any signs of early chicken pox symptoms. These spots undergo various stages such as blistering, bursting, drying and crusting to spread the virus and increase the number of chicken pox spots and rashes.
