Natural Cure for Cold Sores

Cold sores are basically caused as a result of a viral infection and are characterized by the formation of thin walled vesicles at the juncture of skin and mucous membrane. These sores can be very painful.

There are many effective natural remedies for curing cold sores. The basic causes of cold sores are stress, immune deficiency, improper diet and local irritation. So, firstly, you need to curb the causes of sores. Take a proper well balanced diet that includes more of fresh fruits and vegetables. Limit your intake of peanuts, cashew nuts, almonds, garlic, wheat, chocolates and all other food sources that contain arginine.

You can try topical application of thymus or lysine ointments. Application ice on the sores can also prove to be beneficial for curing cold sores. Topical application of herbs such as golden seal and aloe Vera are also good for getting rid of the sores.

Consuming cayenne can also be beneficial because it is a circulatory stimulant, resulting in enhanced blood circulation that further decrease the formation of sores. Echinacea is another natural herb with anti-viral properties. This herb helps in stimulating the immune system and relieves pain.

Eat plenty of foods rich in Vitamin B complex, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Zinc and lysine as these vitamins and minerals help improve blood circulation and support the immune system.
