Cold and rash queries

my son (5 years old) came home from school on Friday with 3 spots on his face in shape of triangle, it is itchy. What could it be....he does have a cold.

The spots on your child's face could be simply due to a minor fall in school or some bruise. The dried bruised skin may be cause for itch. Try the following home remedies for his cold.

  • Make him inhale the steam from boiling water with added vaporizer or caraway seeds. Take appropriate care as the water would be boiling and the hot steam might burn his skin.
  • Mix ½ tablespoon ginger powder in 1 tablespoon honey to make a thick paste, give him 3- 4 times in a day.
  • Encourage fluid consumption in the form of boiled water, vegetable soups, broths, chicken soup with garlic. This will not only help him in terms of energy but will also give him protein (from chicken) and boost his immune system.
  • Avoid cold foods, cold water, cola/caffeinated drinks, wafers/fried foods, chocolates and candies. Consumption of these foods will worsen his cold.
  • If cold is due to some allergy, make a note of the foods that he is allergic to.

If the spots get larger or itchier then consult a specialist to diagnose the exact cause.
