Health is something most of us take for granted, without realizing the dangers of doing so. If you are observant enough you would notice that, most ailments have similar causes and cures; most of them are quite obvious and avoidable but our careless indifference gets the better of us. Most health issues – mild and severe, physical and mental - are related to stress, bad eating and sleeping habits, faulty foods, excessive drinking and smoking, lack of nutrition and lack of exercise.
If you don’t keep a check on your health, minor illnesses like flus and colds hit you because your immunity is low. Over a period of time you can even suffer from heart problems, high blood pressure, diabetes, and arthritis to name a few.
If you really want good health, exercise, adequate sleep and a healthy diet are the keywords for you.
Exercising improves blood circulation and gives you a healthy body and mind. If not on all seven days of the week, exercising five days is also good enough. Brisk walking, swimming, jogging, or rowing for 30 minutes a day would suffice to keep you fit. Also meditate and relax for a stress free body and mind. Then comes diet. Make sure that your daily diet is rich in proteins, fibers, vitamins and minerals. Consume lots of green leafy vegetables, salads and fruits daily. Avoid fried and greasy foods as much as you can. Drink at least 10 glasses of water a day; in other words at least two liters. This improves metabolism and washes away the toxins from your body. You can add a dash of lime to the water or drink lukewarm water twice a day to burn fats and flush out toxins. Your body needs to restore itself from daily wear and tear. And we do that when we get rest and sleep… at night. Getting at least seven hours of undisturbed sleep is as important as diet and exercise. Lack of sleep is also directly related to most ailments. Some other tips you can keep in mind include the following:
- Get sunlight in the morning. It loads your body with Vitamin D.
- Do not smoke. Drink in moderation if you must. Smoking and drinking not only affect your skin but also lungs, kidneys, liver and give you ailments like heart trouble and blood pressure.
- Do not consume too much salt as it makes you put on weight and shoots up blood pressure.
If you follow all of these, you’d be on the right path to good health at all times.

Follow the below mentioned healthy guidelines to remain physically fit -
- Maintain an ideal body weight by consuming a balanced diet and exercising regularly.
- Breakfast is considered a brain food and will help keep you going for the whole day. Never skip your breakfast. If you are in a hurry then grab a fruit along with you to bite it on the way.
- Eat small meals at frequent intervals. Avoid both starving and binging.
- Include fiber in the diet by consuming at least 8-9 servings of fruits and vegetables in a day out of which one should be a green leafy vegetable.
- Choose whole cereals or whole wheat products and avoid white flour and its products as far as possible. Include good proteins in the form of pulses, sprouts, milk, eggs, fish, and lean meats or de skinned chicken.
- Remember ‘fat free’ or ‘sugar free’ products do not mean calorie free. Make sure to read the food labels before any food item you consume. Be an well read and informed citizen.
- Keep the consumption of deep fried, oily or fried foods in check. Avoid refined sugar, colas, sodas, chocolates, pastries, candies and carbonated beverages as far as possible.
- Always remember diet and exercise works hand in hand. Only diet would not be enough to remain healthy without exercise. Physical activity or exercise is a very important criterion to remain fit. Just a simple brisk walk for 40-45 minutes will help.
- Drink sufficient water daily at least 10-12 glasses to keep yourself well hydrated.
