Migraine is not a common mild headache that can be slept off. It’s a severe pain, mostly only on one side of the head, that’s caused by abnormal nerve activity or the contraction of blood vessels in the brain, especially in the meninges (the membranes enveloping the nervous system). Migraine is by and large related to indigestion, disorders of the liver, and vision.

Overworked muscles in the head and neck, great mental tension and stress are also known to be causes of these severe headaches. During such times, the trigeminal nerve is stimulated and releases a substance called neuropeptide, which inflames and dilates the blood vessels, causing an unbearable headache that often lasts for up to three days and makes the sufferer feel nauseous. The sufferer may also experience weakness in one arm or leg along with tingling or numbness.

Migraine also affects the vision, causing blurring or partially blank vision, black spots or lines to appear before the eyes.

It’s usually believed that migraine headaches have no cure, but with a few changes in diet, regular exercise and simple home remedies you can reduce the frequency and intensity of migraine attacks considerably. Eat fresh and dried fruits or a glass of warm water with 1 teaspoon of honey for breakfast; include lots of proteins in foods for lunch and raw salads, whole-wheat bread or cereals or rice or potato for dinner. Also drink lots of water every day. Try hot foot and leg baths, or dip a towel in hot water, squeeze the water and keep the towel on the back of the neck frequently. Applying a cold compress to the head and face also brings relief. You can also make a compress of five drops of lavender essential oil and cold water. Dip a soft cloth in it and put it on your head and neck. Since a migraine is caused by the contraction of blood vessels, massaging primrose oil, an anti-inflammatory agent, on your head will bring you relief too. Another balm you can apply on your forehead is ground lemon peel. Let it dry after applying and then rinse off with cool water. It would help if you kept your system detoxified. For that purpose you can include enough garlic in your diet as it is a good detoxifier. You must also be stress-free and enhance your immunity. For this, consume enough Vitamin C as it contains bioflavonoids, an agent that produces an anti stress adrenal hormone and enhances immunity.

Migraine alternative remedies

Migraines are prolonged headaches that typically occur due to high stress, tension, severe indigestion, vision irregularities, irregular blood sugar, excessive alcohol intake, liver problems or overworked head and neck muscles. In women, it may also be a part of pre-menstrual stress. They are usually identified due to their tendency to affect one side of the head continuously. The pain is pounding, rather than dull in nature, and may be accompanied with nausea, vomiting and feelings of sickness. If you have a migraine due to any of the reasons described above, you would need to begin treatment by controlling the problem if possible.

One of the oldest remedies for migraines is to sip from a glass of 50 ml of milk topped with ice cubes. This will help with cooling down your system. Chewing on mint leaves is also considered helpful. Eating grapes is considered helpful in getting rid of the pain. Applying crushed cabbage leaves to the forehead is also considered to be useful in getting rid of the feelings of nausea. Placing ice wraps around your head would result in easing your headache. You can also massage your head and neck area with a mix of eucalyptus and coconut oil. This will bring instant relief. Pour a few drops of eucalyptus oil in your bath and on your pillow. This will bring relief as well. The best remedy for migraines is sleep. Make sure you get as much as you can.
