Cold with white spots on tonsils If your son has white spots on his tonsils, it is almost certain that he has tonsillitis. Tonsillitis is basically an infection of the tonsils by a bacteria or a virus. Sometimes an infection such as a cold can eventually spread to the tonsils.
Fever is not always a symptom of tonsillitis, so the absence of fever in your son does not indicate anything.
However, tonsillitis is not necessarily a serious infection, so there is no need to worry. Although we most often hear of tonsillitis in relation to a tonsillectomy (surgical removal of the tonsils), this is necessary only in cases where the condition is chronic.
In most cases, rest and some home remedies are enough. At the most, some mild medication may be necessary if the infection refuses to go away with home treatment. Usually, tonsillitis lasts for about a week, so if your son's infection lasts longer, he may need medical treatment. Till then however, you can get your son to gargle with warm salt water and consume a mixture of honey and ginger juice, as these always help. Although it is usually recommended to avoid cold drinks for throat problems, with tonsillitis, ice cold drinks also help ease the pain, so you can consider this too.
