Ingrown toenails home cures

An ingrown toe nail is basically a toe nail that has grown abnormally and begun cutting into the soft tissue around it. The condition is rather common, and is extremely painful, most often affecting the big toe.

The first thing to do in such a situation is to cut the toe nail.

It is best to do this after a bath, when the nail is soft, else it will dig into your flesh still more when you are cutting it. If necessary, you can soak your feet for around fifteen minutes before you attempt cutting the nail. After this, simply cut the nail straight across, and then file the corners, to minimize the chance of a sharp corner digging into your flesh again as the nail grows.

If you find that it is too painful even to cut the toe nail, or if you suffer from diabetes, you should visit a doctor to get it done. After you cut the nail, you should keep your foot clean at all times, particularly if the nail has broken the skin.

To prevent the condition from occurring again, you should avoid wearing tight shoes and socks. Some people are naturally prone to developing ingrown toe nails, but the condition can be prevented, at least to some extent.
