Celiac disease information

Celiac disease is a condition that affects the small intestine, resulting from gluten intolerance. When someone with this condition consumes gluten, a wheat protein, the immune system reacts in such a way that no nutrients can be absorbed by the small intestine at all. Hence, if you have celiac, then gluten containing products such as wheat, barley, and rye, are almost like poison to you.

The most common symptoms of celiac are diarrhoea, weight loss, abdominal pain, and bloating. Other symptoms include mood swings, foul smelling stool, and fatigue.

The only real way to fight celiac disease is to be on a gluten-free diet for the rest of your life.

There is no known medication to combat celiac disease and you must stick to the diet because this is the only way that your intestine will be able to recover properly. Consult your dietician for more information but on the whole, you must avoid foods such as pizza, most fast foods, and breads. Ensure that you eat only those foods that are marked gluten-free and you should be able to obtain them in the organic food section of any food store. You should remember that because this condition also carries with it an increased risk of osteoporosis and intestinal cancer, you must diagnose the condition accurately at once and stop the damage to your intestines.
