Conjunctivitis advice

Conjunctivitis, or pink eye, is usually caused by an allergic reaction or by a bacterial or viral infection. The most common symptoms of this condition are red and itchy eyes. You will also experience some discharge and your eyes will be watery.

Other symptoms could include the common cold, a pricking sensation, and a sore throat. Because the infection is very contagious, try not to use the bed and bath linen that an infected person is using or if you are suffering from it, avoid sharing these with other people. If you have rubbed your eyes, ensure that you wash them before you touch anything.

You should also use soap and water to wash your eyes often. This is will soothe the itching in the eyes. Using a very dilute solution of baby shampoo and warm is also recommended if you have a lot of discharge. Eat large portions of foods that are rich in vitamins A and B2. These foods include leafy vegetables, mangoes, tomatoes, milk and yoghurt. You can also drink the juice of the Indian gooseberry, mixed with some honey, to help your conjunctivitis. It is also recommended that you go on a diet that consists entirely of fruits because this is supposed to be beneficial for conjunctivitis.
