UTI home remedies

A urinary tract infection can arise from inflammation of pre-existing bacteria in the urethra or bladder and can be very painful for the duration that it lasts. It is a fairly common disorder especially among women and almost half of all women suffer from it at least once in their lifetime. If it is not a very severe infection that has infected the kidneys you could try some simple home remedies to reduce the pain and to get rid of the infection.

Although it is painful to urinate it is important to flush the toxins out of your system especially so in the case of an UTI. So the first thing that needs to be done is to drink a lot of water or other healthy fluids. Pure water with no additives is the best.

Alcohol, coffee or tea may exacerbate the existing condition so avoid consuming them. Urinate frequently as this assures that the harmful bacteria are flushed out and allow the urinary system to cleanse and heal itself.

Include a healthy dose of plain and unsweetened yogurt in your daily diet. This has a high level of acidophilus which is a probiotic. A probiotic is a healthy bacterium, which attacks the unhealthy bacteria that encourage this infection. Maintain high levels of personal hygiene by regularly washing the vaginal area with water and mild antibacterial soap. You could try a solution made from water and a few drops of tea tree oil. Tea tree oil is an essential oil known for its antibacterial properties. Make sure the vaginal area is completely dry after every wash and wear cotton clothing that encourages circulation of air.
