Tonsils causes and cures

A viral or bacterial infection can cause inflammation of tonsils, consequent swelling, redness and difficulty swallowing. As the tonsils act as filters and block noxious bacteria and viruses from entering our body they are susceptible to these infections themselves. To ease the discomfort and as a first line of defense against the infection drink a glass of warm water into which the juice of half a lemon and a teaspoonful of dark honey has been blended.

You can have this as often as you like during the day. Making a bottleful and sipping on it at regular intervals can help.

Gargle using hot water and gingerroot powder or crushed gingerroot. Do this twice a day for both, its immediate relief and its healing properties. Garlic has excellent anti-inflammatory action hence crushing two pods and swallowing them two to three times a day is also a simple home cure you can try. Turmeric, a bright yellow spice, has well-documented antibiotic properties. If you are not lactose-intolerant blend a heaped teaspoonful of turmeric in warm milk and drink this before going to bed. Avoid consuming alcohol, coffee, aerated drinks like colas, or fizzy water. Stick to plain, unadulterated water at room temperature.
