Sinusitis is a common problem that occurs when any of the cavities or sinuses has been blocked, i.e. forehead, upper jaw and teeth, around the eyes, ear and neck.

Sinusitis also manifests itself in the form of fever, fatigue and general weakness, an irritating cough that troubles mostly at night and nasal congestion. Home remedies can not cure sinusitis, but they can offer comfort. Steam inhalation from a vaporizer or a cup of hot water offers much relief from the congestion in the inflamed sinus cavities. Applying a hot compress to the affected area also offers comfort from the pain. If you are prone to allergic reactions as well as sinusitis, it is a good idea to avoid smoke congested areas as well as other air pollutants, in addition to dust. It is also advisable to identify the exact allergen with the help of a doctor so that adequate measures can be taken to prevent the reaction. Swimming can also aggravate the problem, since the chlorine used in pools irritates the lining in the sinus cavities; so avoid swimming as long as your sinusitis cavities are blocked.

A regular intake of vitamins, minerals and food supplements also helps to reduce the severity of sinusitis and prevent it. Vitamin C which helps in building the immunity system and also helps to unblock the congested sinuses since it is a natural decongestant. The best source of Vitamin C is the orange so have a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice daily. Another necessary supplement is Vitamin A, found easily in eggs, dairy products and fish, which helps to keep the skin, membranes and mucus healthy. Carotenes, found in carrots, yams, spinach, broccoli, tomatoes and berries is also very important and should be consumed in the natural form. Finally remember, those who eat fresh fruits and vegetables stay healthier so stock up on them and have lots of salads and fresh juices.
