Vaginal infection advice and cure

Vaginal yeast infection is caused when there is an imbalance of Candid albicans yeast found in the vagina in small quantities and the bacteria Lactobacillus acidophilus, which helps to keep the yeast in control. There are various reasons for this imbalance – use of excessive antibiotics which destroy the mentioned bacteria, hormonal changes during menstruation and pregnancy, frequent exposure to semen upsetting the acidic balance of the vagina, use of harsh products to clean the vaginal area and wearing tight clothes which do not let the area breathe and thus encourage growth of yeast. The common symptoms of yeast infections are itching and burning around the vagina, pain during intercourse, burning while urinating and a white vaginal discharge that looks like cottage cheese.

While most women tend to run to quick-fix medications to solve this seemingly embarrassing problem, home remedies often work better and faster to correct this imbalance. Apply apple-cider vinegar regularly on the area prone to the infection, adding water to the vinegar if you feel the need to dilute it a little. Adding garlic to the vinegar can soothe the itchiness.

You could also soak a tampon in curd and wear it for an hour – this will help to correct the imbalance since the bacteria from the curd will replace the unhealthy yeast bacteria. Since curd is so beneficial, it is a good idea to include curd in your diet, whether you are infected or not, to prevent the occurrence of such an infection. In addition you should drink atleast 1 glass of buttermilk daily. Consuming a concoction of olive leaves extract mixed with grape fruit extract and water is an excellent tonic for this infection.
