Chapped lips home remedies

You might have dry or chapped lips either because of too much time spent outdoors, or the dry weather. In any case, chapped lips are more prone to bacterial infections and cold sores. Some home remedies that you can use for chapped lips are as follows:

  • Take a little castor oil on your forefinger and then apply it on your lips. Do this as often as you can throughout the day and for a couple of weeks at least.
  • Drink plenty of water or fluids throughout the day on a regular basis, especially during winter.
  • Avoid licking your lips because instead of moisturizing them, you will actually cause more dehydration of your lips.
  • Include sources of Vitamin B and iron to your diet.
  • Sometimes you might be using the wrong kind of toothpaste or mouthwash. So try changing your toothpaste or mouthwash. Another option is to probably use baking soda on your toothbrush instead of toothpaste.
  • If you smoke, your lips could probably be chapped because of it. So you should probably quit smoking if you do not want dry and cracked lips.
  • Women can also apply creamy lipsticks to help soothe chapped lips.
  • Chapped lips are very sensitive to spicy food items such as pepper and orange juice, and even alcohol. So refrain from these items if you have chapped lips else you might just aggravate them.
