Causes, Symptoms and Treatment for Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is a common type of cancer in women which forms in the tissues of the breast, usually the lobules and the ducts (the glands that make milk and the tubes that carry milk to the nipple respectively). It is a disease which all the women fear the most as it not only has physical concerns but also attached are many psychological concerns. The early it is diagnosed; treatment is more easy and less invasive.

For this you need to identify the signs and symptoms and report to a specialist immediately. Thickening of the breast or lump formation which is often painless, clear or bloody spontaneous discharge from the nipple, any change in the size of the breast, indentation or retraction of the nipple, pitting and redness of skin over the breast are some of the common signs and symptoms. Like in other cancers, in breast cancer also some of the cells in the breast start to grow abnormally which divide more rapidly and spread through the breast to the lymph nodes and other parts of the body.

Often the cause for breast cancer is not clear in most of the cases; however heredity and inherited genes and genetic mutations are often the blamed ones. Some of the risk factors include age, excess weight, family history, early onset of menstruation (before 12 years), late menopause (after the age of 55 years), and first pregnancy at an older age, smoking and alcohol abuse. Once the diagnosis is done which confirms the malignancy various treatment options are available. Treatment would largely depend on the stage and type of breast cancer which can involve chemotherapy, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, biological therapy or surgery.
